Nightcanvas
by Nicole Petroski

My eyes close and the journey begins
Fragments of images splash randomly
Across the nightcanvas of my mind
The fluid dance of distant memories
Moves to the music of half-forgotten voices
And I find myself holding a stranger
In the warm embrace of love
My body moves like a river
Uninhibited at last

As the waves wash over me
I feel the friction on my skin
I swim to the centre of an infinite moment
The place you were, are and will be
We come together once, for eternity
I know you without knowing
And in this ever-shifting world
I wonder that my senses hold so still

As we journey through this place
I reach for your translucent hand
I see your eyes and they hold me suspended
I hear your voice and it makes me complete
Songs and colors fill my soul
And I let the night time cradle me in her silence
